Wimbledon Betting – Five To Wager On At The All England Club

Even though betting on MLB odds will take center stage throughout the summer, there are still some big events to check out, including Wimbledon, the most prestigious tennis tournament of all the Grand Slams. Since the year 2000, Serena (four wins) and Venus Williams (five) have combined to win all but two titles at the All England Club, with Maria Sharapova in 2004 and Amelie Mauresmo in 2006 breaking their dominance. Who will take it this year?

Serena Williams – The younger Williams has been out since last year with blood clots, so that’s going to hold her back, but you can never look past Serena at any event, especially here, where she has won the last two years.

Venus Williams – Venus is a five-time champion here, and she has three wins and a final in her last six trips to London. She may be the most dangerous No.23 see in the history of this event.

Maria Sharapova – Sharapova seems to be focused on her game again, instead of her celebrity, and she is coming off a semifinal loss at the French Open. She hasn’t made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon since 2006.

Vera Zvonareva – Zvonareva has never won a Grand Slam, but she has reached two finals and a semifinal in her last four Grand Slam starts. She lost to Serena Williams in the finals of last year’s Wimbledon.

Li Na – The French Open champion has reached the finals in her last two Grand Slam events, and even though she hasn’t made it past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, she’s playing as well as anyone in the world right now.

Sports Betting Pick: Maria Sharapova

Tennis Betting – Djokovic Favored To Win At Wimbledon

2011 Belmont Stakes betting players will have a new list of horses to wager on as the race features only the best three-year-olds, but in Wimbledon, the mens’ draw has seen a two-man domination as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have combined to win the last eight titles at the All England Club. However, neither player is favored to win despite competing in the French Open final.

Novak Djokovic is favored at +160 after his winning streak came to a halt at 43 matches in the semifinals of the French Open, but the Serb has been on fire this year, and he has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in two of the last four years. His loss came to Federer, who is listed at +300, and the Swiss is looking for his seventh Wimbledon title, which would tie him with Pete Sampras for the most in the Open era. His exit in the quarterfinals of last year’s event was the first time since 2002 that Federer was not in a Wimbledon final.

Nadal, the defending champion, is listed at +250 after beating Federer for his sixth title at Roland Garros, and he has won two of the last three at the All England Club. But all three of these players combined won’t have the pressure that Andy Murray, who is listed at +850, will have on him. Murray is attempting to become the first Englishman since Fred Perry in 1936 to win the most prestigious tournament in the world, and that is why you should probably avoid his online sports betting odds.

Tennis Betting – The Joker Will Dominate At The French Open

Tennis BettingWhile it is no secret that Rafa Nadal is the easy pick to win every time that the tennis world shifts to the clay courts, there is one player in particular that is bound to make life difficult this year at Roland Garros. Novak Djokovic entered the 2011 French Open chasing more than a majors title, and with sports betting history on the line it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Joker go all the way.

Djokovic ran his win streak to 40 through the first couple of days at the French Open, and after another dominant performance has his sights set on both a title and Johnny McEnroe's win streak of 42 straight. Whether or not he will be able to dominate the way he has all year is yet to be determined, but if his impressive win over Thiemo de Bakker is any indication then he should be able to get the job done. Djokovic has shown the world just how dominant he can be with a more aggressive approach to the game this year, and with perennial greats such as Nadal and Roger Federer struggling with both injuries and the age factor, the time is right for a new tennis superstar to be born. Djokovic has already impressed with his seven titles so far this season, and now he will look to clinch both another major and a spot in history as he runs the table at the 2011 French open ahead of the online Belmont betting.

Top Players In Tennis

Roger FedererThe 2011 Preakness Stakes betting race, is set to be run right around the same time as the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament. With only two weeks until post and tournament time, fans sports betting on both events are looking at the top stars. Today we will be looking at the top male tennis stars for the 2011 French Open.

For all intents and purposes, the big three in men's professional tennis remain Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Of the three players, Rafael Nadal appears to be the most likely player to be ranked first overall entering the French Open. Novak Djokovic will continue to put his incredible winning streak on the line, as he enters this year's French Open as the second seed in the world.

Nadal and Djokovic will be followed up by somewhat forgotten future hall of fame star, Roger Federer. Over the last year and a half, Federer has gone, from the king of men's tennis, to the third seed in the world. For the rest of us, dropping down to third would still be considered impressive, yet for Federer, dropping to third is awful.

Aside from the aforementioned big three, a few other stars fans should consider wagering on this season are fifth seed Robin Soderling, sixth seed David Ferrer and 12th seed Andy Roddick. Since 2009, Robin Soderling has taken the tennis world by storm, as he has victories against both Nadal and Federer. What's more, if it hadn't been for Novak Djokovic's unbelievable winning streak, we may be talking about Soderling as the second seed instead.

On the other hand, David Ferrer and Andy Roddick have been mainstays in the hearts and minds of tennis handicappers for quite some time. Ferrer has played quite well, in several matches against Rafael Nadal. Meanwhile, Roddick, has been a fan favorite for years, and tends to do quite well at Rolland Garros.

Top Female Contenders At Roland Garros

Roland GarrosWhile the Kentucky Derby betting race for May 2011 appears to be taking the entire media spotlight, there are many other events in May people should be aware of. One such event is the sports betting online French Open. This year's tournament is headlined by several amazing female contenders, looking to steal the spotlight from their male counterparts. Here are a few contenders fans should keep their eyes on.

Kim Clijsters - To say Kim Clijsters is a legend in the female tennis world would be putting it lightly. The 2001 runner up at the French Open has had an incredible career, in the decade since she fell short at Roland Garros. Historically speaking, betting on Kim Clijsters at the French Open would appear to be a poor decision, as she has struggled on clay mightily. However, consider that Clijsters has won her last two major events, and we feel that this year could be the one in which Clijsters finally wins at Roland Garros.

Francesca Schiavone - A relative unknown to the casual tennis fan, Francesca Schiavone is a star on the rise after an incredible 2010 campaign. In 2010, the story of Schiavone started out with her first ever major championship victory at Roland Garros. As a result of being completely unknown by the betting public, many people believed that Francesca Schiavone victory at the French Open last year was a fluke. However, considering that she had a successful summer, winning several tournaments, including a marathon victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova at this past January's Australian Open, and we feel Schiavone is a safe pick to win this year's tournament.

Caroline Wozniacki - The world's top female tennis player enters the 2011 French Open as the odds on favorite to win the event, despite never winning a French Open tournament before. Similar to a championship boxer that hasn't faced any real talent; many of Wozniacki critics feel that the mighty Dane won't be successful on the clay courts at Roland Garros, considering she hasn't had success on clay in the past. Still, as the world's top seeded female tennis star, Wozniacki should in theory be able to win at Roland Garros.
